Our waitohu has 3 main components.

The first, and top design is mĀui and represents the feats and activities we achieve above and on the wai such as hoe waka (paddling), whakatere waka (sailing), eke ngaru (surfing) etc.

The middle portion of the design represents tangaroa & hinemoana (the two eyes) as manifestations of the ocean itself. The triangle patterns represent the many ngaru, voices and pathways embodied by tangaroa ara rau.

The bottom section represents tinirau as the ancestor of fish and thus the ability to move beneath the water through kaukau (Swimming) and ruku kai (diving).
